Intermediate Irregular Verbs and Past Tense Expression<\/p>\n

\n

As explained in the previous lessons, we use verbs in two categories when making sentences in Past tense in English<\/p>\n

1.Regular verbs : It is made by bringing -e, ed and ied to the end of the verb.<\/p>\n

like – liked<\/p>\n

love-loved<\/p>\n

clean – cleaned<\/p>\n

watch- watched<\/p>\n

carry- carried (since it ends with -y, -y is dropped and the suffix -ied is added)<\/p>\n

2. Irregular Verbs : It is made by changing the first form of the verb.<\/p>\n

go – went<\/p>\n

see- saw<\/p>\n

drink- drank<\/p>\n

Examples:<\/p>\n

I went to the shopping mall with my friends yesterday.<\/p>\n

He saw this banner on the web last week.<\/p>\n

Negative Usage:<\/p>\n

I didn’t drink coke in yesterday’s party because I was sick.<\/p>\n

We didn’t understand the problem so that we couldn’t sort it out.<\/p>\n

She didn’t think She was right.<\/p>\n
