BUSINESS ENGLISH: Departments

Departments

In our lesson, we will focus on the departments and places where we work. The question form we will use to learn where someone works in English is “where.”

Where do you work? Where does he work? Where do they work?

Remember that for the pronouns “he” and “she,” we need to add the suffix “-s” to the verb:

He works in a restaurant.

When asking about the department someone works in, we use the question word “which”:

Which department do you work in?
Which department does she work in?

Here are some workplaces and work departments:

Lab
Office
Center
Home
Training
Production
Marketing
Sales
Retail
Wholesale
Accounts
Human Resources

For example, if you work in the accounting department, you would say: “I work in accounts.”

For marketing: “I work in marketing.”

For human resources: “I work in the Human Resources department.”

For finance: “I work in the finance department.”

For a shop: “Julia works in a shop in London.”

For home: “She works at home.”

For training: “He works in the training department.”

For a laboratory: “I work in a lab.”

For retail: “I work in a shop / I am in retail.”

For wholesale: “I work in the wholesale department.”

For construction: “I don’t work in construction.”

For production: “I work in the production department.”

And you?

Now, introduce the place where you work.
