The Present Simple tense is used to express habits and daily routines. Let’s explore its usage:

Usage of Present Simple Tense:

In the Present Simple tense, we add -s, -es or -ies to the end of verbs for the third person singular forms (he, she, it). This rule is not applied to other subjects (I, you, we, they).

Verbs with -s:

  • Stay – Stays
  • Play – Plays
  • Get – Gets
  • Like – Likes
  • Love – Loves
  • Talk – Talks
  • Take – Takes
  • Pay – Pays

Examples:

Habits – Daily Routines:

  • He stays at home on Sundays.
  • She likes flowers.
  • She gets up at 8:00.
  • He drives very fast.
  • He lives in İzmir.

  • Catch – Catches
  • Fix – Fixes
  • Finish – Finishes
  • Go – Goes
  • Do – Does
  • Wash – Washes
  • Kiss – Kisses

Examples:

She watches T.V on Sundays.

He brushes his teeth every morning.

He finishes his job at 5:00.

Negative Usage:

To form negative sentences, we use don’t or doesn’t.

For I – you – we – they:

  • I don’t start work at 08:00.
  • We don’t live in Ankara.
  • They don’t play soccer on Sundays.

For he – she – it:

  • He doesn’t speak Spanish.
  • She doesn’t eat fast food.
  • It doesn’t run fast.

Question Form:
