Test Preparation – Testing for Different Levels

Cambridge ESOL

WHAT IS CAMBRIDGE ESOL?

Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) is an organization affiliated with the renowned Cambridge University. Cambridge ESOL certificates are indicators of success in foreign language learning.

HOW MANY LEVELS ARE THERE IN ESOL EXAMS?

There are three levels: Starters, Movers, and Flyers, designed for young children with basic skills. When children progress to the Flyers certificate level, they can aim for the General English certificates such as Key English Test (KET) or Preliminary English Test (PET). These certificates will elevate their proficiency to a more advanced level, valuable in their school or workplace.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF YOUNG LEARNERS’ EXAMS?

The purpose of Young Learners’ English Exams (Starters, Movers, Flyers) is to assess students’ reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, allowing them to gauge their English proficiency within their age group worldwide.

KEY ENGLISH TEST (KET)

This exam evaluates the ability to understand basic and practical English used in everyday written and spoken language. KET assesses four skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. It measures practical skills and encourages the development of skills applicable in school, work, and travel situations.

PRELIMINARY ENGLISH TEST (PET)

PET tests intermediate-level written and oral communication used in business, education, and social settings. Possessing a PET certificate demonstrates practical skills and proves the ability to use the language in various areas, making it an essential step for those aiming to use English for work and education purposes.

HOW ARE THE EXAMS EVALUATED?

In Cambridge ESOL exams, rather than pass/fail, students are awarded scores ranging from 1 to 5 for their performance in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

EXAM FEES

Exam fees vary depending on the type of exam and are determined by the British Council.

EXAM DATES

The exams are conducted three times a year at specific intervals.

Students preparing for the exams can benefit from intensive English training programs led by English teachers. Taking this international exam to measure your students’ English proficiency adds prestige to both the students and the school.

Students in grade 4 (Starters), grade 5 (Movers), grade 6 (Flyers), grade 7 (KET), and grade 8 (PET) take these level exams.
